North Forsyth Viking’s Brandon Gambrell won the battle of the hurdle stars (at least the ones that showed up) at the Winston Salem State College High School Invitational, Saturday April 6, and the 3
Mideast Region got a new 300m hurdle leader.
The junior hurdler was at his fastest in the heats, where he sped a PR 40.69 to take the gold medal. Steve Stowe continued his climb in the 800m ranks by narrowly beating Knightdale’s Henry Keidy for the gold medal and running a season best time of 1:59.35.
As an added surprise to the day Markeen Carmichael took second in the shot put, earning important points to North’s 4th place meet finish. He assisted the 4x100m relay (Adrion Miller, Tyvone Johnson and Trenard Alexander) to a 4th place finish.
Other highlights of the men’s team 4th place finish were respectable finishes in the 4x200m relay (Gambrell, Hardy, Stowe, and Johnson), and 4th place in the 4×400 relay (Hardy, Gambrell, Fulwood and Stowe).
The Men’s and Women’s track teams will be competing on April 12-13in the Scott Brent Invitational (City/County Championship) being held at MT. Tabor H.S.
