NFHS cross-country athletes participated in their first of 5 Invitational meets of the 2013 cross-country season, held at Beeson Park, in Kernersville, NC on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Running against teams from all over the Piedmont, The Vikings posted several personal best times in the 3200m. The boys varsity capped off a productive night by placing 7th place overall, besting Parkland and Glenn. Last season the boys didn’t place at all in that meet.
Senior Steve Stowe had a modest but helpful debut in a cross-country meet. His 17th place helped the Vikings fend off determined Parkland and Glenn. Senior Leon Smith however showed the most improvement from his performance last year. He was North’s second finisher, shattering his personal best time by 3:00. Michael Blackburn, James Gray, Aldo Lopez, Misael Manuel and Hunter Pless, all posted personal best times.
Junior, Erika Rodas, made her second time at the invitational meet meaningful. Rodas was North’s first finisher in the 3200m event comfortably posting a personal best time 16:00, shattering her PR by over two minutes.
